Terms of Service

Last updated: March 2026

Please read these Terms carefully before using our website or applying to the Island Internship program. By submitting an application or making a payment, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you have questions, contact us at hello@islandinternship.com before proceeding.

1. Who We Are

Island Internship is an internship placement and pre-departure support service operating at islandinternship.com. We connect European university students with structured internship placements in Bali (Indonesia) and Sri Lanka, and provide logistical support to help students prepare for and settle into life abroad.

2. Scope of Services

Island Internship provides the following services:

Full Support tier additionally includes: airport pickup, accommodation arrangement, scooter arrangement, SIM card on arrival, and orientation week coordination. Details of each tier are set out at the time of application and confirmed in writing before payment is made.

We do not provide legal advice, immigration advice, medical advice, or financial advice. Any guidance we give on visas, entry requirements, accommodation, or insurance is provided in good faith as practical support — not as a regulated professional service.

3. Application and Matching Process

Applying to Island Internship is free and carries no obligation. The matching process begins after an initial call in which we discuss your field, timing, and preferences. We will present one or more placement options for you to review before making any payment.

No payment is due until you have reviewed a proposed placement and chosen to proceed. Once you confirm the match and pay the program fee, the placement is reserved and pre-departure preparation begins.

We cannot guarantee a specific company, supervisor, project scope, or exact start date. Matching depends on host company availability, your field of study, timing, and other factors. We commit to transparency about timelines and to making a genuine effort to find a placement that fits your requirements. If we are unable to find a suitable match, we will communicate this clearly.

If you have a required internship agreement format from your university, it is your responsibility to share this with us in advance so we can ensure the host company can meet your institution's requirements.

4. Program Fees

Program fees are confirmed in writing before payment is requested. Current fees are published on our Pricing page and may be updated from time to time. The fee applicable to your placement is the one confirmed at the time of your match.

The program fee covers placement matching, internship documentation support, visa guidance, on-the-ground support, and the additional arrival services included in your selected tier. It does not cover flights, travel insurance, accommodation rent, scooter rental, visa application fees, personal living costs, or any costs payable to third parties.

Refund policy: Program fees are non-refundable once pre-departure preparation has commenced, except where Island Internship is unable to provide a placement or fails to deliver the core services described above. If your placement falls through before departure due to a host company withdrawal, we will work to find an alternative; if no suitable alternative is available, you may request a refund of the program fee. Refund requests must be submitted in writing to hello@islandinternship.com. We do not refund fees because a student chooses not to travel, changes their plans, or encounters visa difficulties that are not attributable to Island Internship.

5. Student Responsibilities

As a participant in the Island Internship program, you are responsible for:

6. Internship Placement Limitations

Internships arranged through Island Internship are unpaid educational placements. We do not guarantee employment, a paid role, or a job offer at the end of the placement.

Host companies provide an official internship agreement, a named supervisor, and documentation aligned with standard Dutch university requirements. However, it is your responsibility to confirm with your study coordinator or faculty that the placement meets your specific program requirements. Requirements vary between universities and degree programs, and Island Internship does not guarantee that every placement will satisfy every institution's criteria.

We maintain relationships with our host companies and monitor placement quality. If you experience a significant problem with your host company during the placement — including misrepresentation of the role or absence of supervision — contact us immediately. We will work with you to resolve the situation, which may include facilitating a placement transfer where possible.

7. Visa, Travel, and Accommodation

Visa and entry requirements depend on your nationality, destination country, host company setup, the duration of your stay, and current immigration regulations. These requirements can change at short notice and are ultimately determined by the authorities of the destination country, not by Island Internship.

We provide guidance to help you navigate the visa process, but we do not make applications on your behalf, guarantee visa approval, or accept responsibility for visa delays, refusals, or changes to immigration policy that affect your travel plans. Final decisions on entry and stay rest with the immigration authorities of the destination country.

Accommodation arranged as part of the Full Support tier is confirmed before your departure. Rent is paid directly in-destination. Island Internship does not hold or manage your rental payments. Housing arrangements are made in good faith based on availability and current vetting, and we cannot guarantee that a specific property will be available for the full duration of your placement.

Flights and travel insurance are your responsibility and are not included in the program fee.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Island Internship's liability in connection with the program is limited to the program fee you have paid. We are not liable for:

This limitation of liability does not exclude any rights you may have under applicable consumer protection law.

9. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any dispute that cannot be resolved through direct communication with us will be referred to the competent courts of the Netherlands, unless applicable consumer protection law in your country of residence requires otherwise.

We encourage you to contact us before initiating any formal dispute. Most issues are resolvable through direct conversation. Email us at hello@islandinternship.com.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will notify enrolled students by email. Continued use of our website or participation in the program after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
